With all of the drastic uncertainty coming from the executive branch of the federal government these days, having clean audits and solid 990s is more important than ever.

This webinar is perfect for any non-profit finance or operations staff who is responsible for preparing the books for the audit & 990. Whether you have a LOT of experience but some gaps or are new to the process, this webinar is for you. This webinar will focus on best practices for accrual accounting.

You will walk away from this webinar with knowledge for how to:

  • file all of your documents for ease of retrieval

  • recognize revenue correctly and how to identify possible errors

  • reconcile each account on your balance sheet, including updating your restricted fund balances

  • appropriately calculate your functional expense allocation

  • upgrade your systems for current/future years based on gaps you find during the closing process

About the presenter:

Sofia Olson of Sunray Accounting Solutions is an empathetic, deliberate thinker with 20+ years of non-profit accounting experience. My superpowers are cleaning up messes; identifying what is needed in the present moment to get clearer, cleaner, more sustainable and dynamic systems to manage complex financial data; and creating and implementing those systems.

I began learning accounting as the volunteer treasurer at the Seattle Young People’s Project in 2003, and then grew my skills in various roles, including my most recent as the Finance & Operations Manager at API Chaya before I launched my consulting business.

A point of pride in my time at work at API Chaya is that for the four audits that I was responsible for during my time there, there were not only no findings, but also no adjustments. This means that I had gotten the financial records so clean that the auditors didn’t find anything that they thought needed to be changed about them.

Upsell? I have services that I offer, ways that I directly support nonprofits in boosting their accounting capacity, and I will spend a few minutes of the webinar to let you know about them.

When you register, you subscribe. You’ll receive an email soon with my procedure manual for recording multiyear grants, and then monthly-ish newsletters covering various topics related to nonprofit accounting. As with any mailing list, you have the option to unsubscribe at any moment.
