Who am I?
Sunray Accounting Solution provides bookkeeping, accounting consulting, coaching to non-profit accountants, and short term or project-based Finance Director or Controller services to nonprofits through the efforts of Sofia Olson and her team. I am an empathetic, deliberate thinker with 20+ years of non-profit accounting experience. My superpowers are cleaning up messes; identifying what is needed in the present moment to get clearer, cleaner, more sustainable and dynamic systems to manage complex financial data; and creating and implementing those systems.
As someone who is deeply concerned about the impact of inequality, injustice, and violence along lines of race, class, gender, ability, sexual orientation, as well as the ways that modern capitalism is ravaging our planet and the climate, I have focused my work on supporting organizations that are working for justice, equity, and sustainability.
I grew up in Tokyo, Japan, riding trains to school and back to attend an international school in Higashikurume. I completed my bachelors at the University of Washington. I lived in Southeast Seattle with my wife, young child, step son, a dog, and a cat until February, 2026, when we moved to Spain. I continue my work supporting the accounting of US non-profits from here in Spain through many a video call and the wonders of the internet.
I began learning accounting as the volunteer treasurer at the Seattle Young People’s Project, and then grew my skills in various roles, including my most recent as the Finance & Operations Manager at API Chaya.
A point of pride in my time at work at API Chaya is that for the four audits that I was responsible for during my time there, there were not only no findings, but also no adjustments. This means that I had gotten the financial records so clean that the auditors didn’t find anything that they thought needed to be changed about them, which is extremely rare.
